Questions & answers
Straight answers about racking, dock doors, preventive maintenance and breakdown calls.
Racking
How often should warehouse racking be inspected?
Most sites do a quick visual walk-through by trained staff every week or month, plus a detailed inspection by a qualified person at least once a year. The Canadian rack standard CSA A344 and your rack manufacturer give the details. Busy aisles with a lot of forklift traffic often need more frequent checks.
What counts as racking damage that needs action?
Bent or creased uprights, bent beams, missing beam locks or safety pins, damaged base plates or missing floor anchors, and anything twisted or out of plumb. Serious damage means unloading the bay and keeping it empty until it is repaired. When in doubt, unload it and call a qualified person.
Can a damaged rack upright be straightened?
No. A bent upright or beam should be replaced with the manufacturer's part or an engineered repair kit, not heated or hammered straight. Straightening weakens the steel.
Dock doors & levelers
What does a dock leveler and dock door PM include?
Typically: checking springs, cables, rollers and hinges; lubricating moving parts; testing the door operator, photo eyes and safety edges; checking the leveler lip, hinges, hydraulics or springs, toe guards and bumpers; and checking seals and shelters. Every item is recorded so you can see what was found.
How often should dock doors and levelers be serviced?
Busy distribution centres usually service dock doors and levelers every 3 to 6 months, with quick monthly safety checks. Lighter-use sites can often go every 6 to 12 months. We set the schedule from how many cycles your doors actually do.
Working with Huscan
Do you offer 24/7 breakdown service?
Yes. Call 403-903-1143 any time, including nights, weekends and holidays. Urgent stoppages like a stuck dock door, a stopped conveyor or no heat come first.
What is a preventive maintenance (PM) plan?
A schedule of planned checks and service for your equipment, such as doors, levelers, HVAC and conveyors, so problems are caught before they stop your operation. We build the plan with you, run it on schedule, and report every visit online.
What areas do you serve?
Calgary and area, including Northeast and Southeast Calgary industrial parks, Balzac and CrossIron, Rocky View County and Airdrie.
Will I get a report of the work done?
Yes. Every job is logged in our own maintenance software as a work order with what was found, what was done, parts used and photos. PM customers can get their own login to see equipment history and upcoming work.
